What happens when you combine a certified, crunchy, granola girl with a love for letters? Let me introduce you to Branching Out, an illustrated font made with my fellow tree huggers in mind! This one is a passion project, a hand-lettered piece that took root and grew into something bigger that could be shared with and used by other nature enthusiast and outdoorsy brands (REI, I’m lookin’ at you). Perfect for elevating an eco-focused phrase on a sticker or tote, adding interest to a “Thank You” gift card for the local outdoors shop, or the main branding element for an environmental protections campaign. Nothing says save the trees like custom type make to look like tree components!

Each letter and leaf is hand-drawn, using a highly detailed, line-based style to emphasize the bark-like texture of the characters. I wanted the type to look like custom hand-lettering when used instead of a standard, uniform font, so I created additional characters for the most popular letters like “E”s, “O”s, and “T”s. This way the same drawn letter isn’t repeated within any one word or phrase.
