We all get a little basic bitch vibe going on during pumpkin spice season — you know it, I know it. The air starts to cool off just a touch and we all go crazy over anything sweater-weather and pumpkin flavored. But this last Autum my basic got a little bite when I went reading through the ingredients list of the over-priced latte I had in hand and half the things listed sounded like the scientific names of long-extinct dinosaur species. And the real kicker, no pumpkin… But that didn’t just apply to my coffee, all my favorite getting-into-the-spooky-season stuff had this same thing in common: it was oh so artificial. So, you know I had to make a little sweet n’ sassy lettering to poke fun at the pumpkin spice culture we’ve all grown so accustomed to.

For this piece I hand-lettered some yummy, sweet, script type that speaks to the warm, spicey lattes we love so much, but I snuck in a subtle tongue-in-cheek detail. The initial impression is very “buy this pumpkin themed thing at Target for the cozy vibes you’re craving,” but a second look has you thinking twice about that pumpkin spice candle you just lit.
