Endure The Shitty Painted Sign
Sign-painting | Hand-lettering
This hand-painted sign, “Endure the shitty, appreciate the good”, was created for my local, Baltimore based client struggling with mental health challenges and wanted this reminder in their safe space. For this I took a more traditional, dimensional, sign-lettering approach that is easy to read but still has a neat aesthetic. I decided to go with strong, dependable letterforms that feel grounded — no distracting, decorative features or varying typographic qualities like those that characterized my scripted or playful pieces. While this phrase called for a design that was more straightforward, I didn’t want it to feel boring, so I played with bright colors, decorative stars, dimensional forms, and color blocking to keep things visually interesting. The final piece lives in my clients living room amongst the other photos and art pieces that bring them joy and piece of mind.
